The Institute for Applied Microelectronics (IUMA) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is coordinating a FP7 project HELICoiD (HypErspectraL Imaging Cancer Detection ICT‐618080), funded by the European Commission. The objective of this project is the detection of different types of cancers (mainly brain cancer) using hyperspectral cameras. The main goal is to provide surgeons with real time information about the probability of cancer for the tissues currently exposed. The consortium is composed of 9 partners (Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Hospital Doctor Negrín ‐ Fundación Canaria de Investigación y Salud, Medtronic, Imperial College London, Oncovision (GEM‐Imaging), Virtual Angle BV, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Association pour la Recherche et le Développement des Méthodes et Processus Industriels, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust).
The candidate will participate in the development of cancer detection algorithms using hyperspectral imaging, in the implementation of such algorithms using high performance parallel systems and in the assistance to the management of the project. The candidate is expected to travel frequently to several cities of Europe for several project meetings and to anywhere in the world for project dissemination. The candidate is also expected to collaborate in the preparation of the documentation regarding the project activities.
